The Dräger red cap is a reusable 7 mm sealing cap that closes an unused port on the ventilator breathing system. With the cap in place the port is sealed, which keeps the gas path intact for leak testing and for normal ventilation; an uncapped port shows as a leak on the device's self-test. The cap is colour-coded red so that its presence or absence is visible at a glance during circuit checks, and it is reusable, going through the same reprocessing cycle as the components it seals.
It is used in Intensive Care and is specified for neonatal patients, where leak tolerance is tightest and a small open port has a proportionally larger effect on delivered volume.
