The 3M Universal Electrosurgical Pad, from the 9100 series, is a grounding pad built to standardise the use of electrosurgical return electrodes across a hospital's patient population. Because it is designed as a universal option, facilities do not need to keep separate differentiated plates for adult and paediatric patients, which helps reduce the number of individual inventory items they need to manage.
Its backing is made from a fleece and polyethylene material, applied to the skin to safely complete the electrical circuit and direct current back to the electrosurgical generator during monopolar procedures. The pad is described as lightweight and adaptable, supporting comfortable, secure application and helping maintain safety in the operating room across a range of case types.
It is noted as transitioning to the equivalent Solventum-branded Universal electrosurgical pad. It is stocked under two catalog numbers for the standard configuration.
