3M Fibracol Plus Collagen Wound Dressing with Alginate combines 90 percent collagen with 10 percent calcium alginate in a soft, absorbent and conformable topical dressing. The collagen component provides structural support at the wound bed, while the calcium alginate contributes gel-forming properties that help the dressing manage exudate and maintain a moist wound surface environment as it absorbs fluid.
This combination is intended to support the natural stages of wound healing, including granulation tissue formation and epithelialisation, by keeping the wound environment favourable rather than allowing it to dry out or become overly wet. Because the dressing conforms to the wound surface, it can adapt to irregular wound geometries rather than sitting rigidly on top of the tissue, which helps maintain even contact across the wound bed.
